This lame (pronounced ‘Lahm’ which is a French word that means ‘blade’) is as a sourdough scorer - it slices the dough before being placed into a hot oven. Scoring dough helps the bread expand in the oven without the skin splitting randomly. You can even get creative with different scoring patterns in your sourdough bread!


The lame comes with 5 blades. It also has a leather cover to ensure safety when you are not using it/storing it. The wooden handle is comfortable to hold and will ensure a great score on your loaf of sourdough bread!

I’m 73yrs old and I thought never to old to learn a new skill. With the support of some dear friends who bake sourdough I decided to give it a go. Also use my cast iron baker from you for my mixed grain home milled bread. Love it. Thank you for your wonderful online store.
