Sourdough Cheddar and Chive Waffles

Sourdough Cheddar and Chive Waffles

Transform your sourdough discard into a delicious savoury treat. These cheddar and chive waffles are a delightful blend of tangy sourdough, sharp cheddar cheese, and the aromatic freshness of chives. The result? A crispy-on-the-outside, fluffy-on-the-inside waffle that's a perfect canvas for a variety of toppings (we recommend a garlic flavoured cream cheese! Yum!)

Whether you're hosting a brunch or simply treating yourself to a gourmet breakfast, these savoury waffles are a surefire way to add a burst of flavour to your morning routine. Get ready to indulge in the perfect harmony of savoury goodness with each delectable bite!

What you’ll need:

  • 200g sourdough discard
  • 200ml full cream milk
  • 150g flour
  • 25g grated parmesan
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 5g chopped chives
  • 80g melted butter + more for brushing

  1. Mix all ingredients in a large mixing bowl until combined to form your waffle batter.
  2. Pre-heat waffle maker and brush plates with butter.
  3. Use a cup measure or ladle to pour batter in to just cover the iron. Don't go overboard – it will leak out the sides!
  4. Cook until golden and crisp - a few minutes depending on your waffle maker
  5. Serve and enjoy!

Hot Tip: These waffles are great for freezing! Allow to cool, then pop them in a ziplock bag and into the freezer. When you’re ready to eat them, pop them straight into the toaster to heat up.
